# phpBB easyCMS as your start page

#####
# Introduction
#####
There are 2 good ways of making the easyCMS as your start page:
	- Overriding the server's Directory Indexing
	- Redirecting the user using a .html page
I prefer the first method, because it's cleaner. We'll discuss that one first.

#####
# Overriding the server's Directory Indexing
#####
Every server is being configured to look for a few files in your site to be used as the index (start page).
The most used one is 'index.html'. But since the introduction of server-side scripts in Perl, Shell, PHP
and so on, sometimes we need to use another file as our index. These are all defined in what is called 'DirectoryIndex'.
It's an Apache directive set for the entire host, or per virtualhost. However, it can also be set from a file
names '.htaccess'. It overrides the Apache directive(s) for that directory (and all subdirectories).

Okay, enough with the technical talk. Let's just get down to setting it up :-).
I have supplied a file named 'htaccess' in this directory that can be used by mostly everyone to override the
'DirectoryIndex'. However, your host is supposed to allow override of the DirectoryIndex directive. If not, either
contact your host or use the 2nd solution described here.
Here's what you do: you upload the file to your forum root, and name it '.htaccess' (notice the period! - without the
quotes). If you now access your forum through your browser using 'http://yourdomain.com/', it should automatically
give you the articles page. If not, either contact your host, or delete the .htaccess file from your server and use
solution 2.

# Redirecting the user using a .html page
#####
This is fairly simple. Instead of overriding the server's DirectoryIndex, we're simply going to use it :-).
A standard server configuration with PHP enabled has setup the DirectoryIndex to first handle .html documents, then
.php documents. So, why not just use a .html page to bypass the index.php that comes with our forums?
Just upload the index.html provided in this directory to your forum root directory. That is all.

If you love customization, fix the page up to match your template a bit or something; whatever.

Enjoy!
